 To make things even nicer, the party is overed on a site of one of the main national newspaper of Israel. We did not do anything to make this happen (!).

Organizing a New Year’s Party

I am happy to share with you a new milestone in my stay in Israel. I am organizing a new year’s party together with Bert, a guy I met 5 or 6 weeks ago. This is going to be a hell of a party, like I am used to in Amsterdam!Anyway, the milestone is that we succeeded in selecting a place with a good deal for the people that will come partying. We still have to make sure that a lot of people will be coming to make it a success, which it is born to be :) 

 

Of course you can expect a post on the first of January.

Weather

I read about the weather in the NETHERLANDS. Storm, rains, etc. etc. In fact the summer in the Netherlands was bad and now it is even worse. I would like to share with you my weather-experience over here. This week we had the coldest day since my stay in Israel: 23 Degrees Celsius. Today I had to suffer heaviest rains till now, about 2,5 mm :)The rain maid me laugh (in the first time of my life I liked to see some rain) and the coldest day made me drink a coffee near the beach.One thing I will miss for sure when I am here in Israel; that’s the great climate over here! 

Ask the experienced, not the educated

Still busy with finishing my thesis sometimes ( it is hard, but I am sure I will succeed soon) I found this Chinese proverb somewhere…These kinds of wisdom keep attracting me: “you will learn by doing, not by studying” (I know this is a rough interpretation, however….). Still I have

Shabat shalom

Weekend, in Israel this takes place on friday and saturday. Fridayevening is the beginning of Shabat, the day all the jews rest (like god did on the Seventh day after creating the world).The Shabat is for me one of the aspects with main importance in keeping my jewish identity. At home this was the evening the whole family was at home, we rather often had guests and my mother was cooking the finest things. Most important was the warm and cosy atmosphere.In Israel this did not change (however this is not with family of the Netherlands). Sharon and I every week go to family (of her or mine) and enjoy the same rituals we had at home, but at least so important to me, enjoy good food and a very relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere.We are getting to the end of the Shabat, and we invited for Sharon’s birthday some people, for whom I am going to make some food. Tomorrow you will be able to read about tonight! Shabat Shalom!

One month after arrival

So, one month after arrival, what is the status?

Akklimatiseren

Ik weet niet of je het zo spelt, maar goed: akklimatiseren. Eigenlijk ben ik de afgelopen 9 dagen langzaam maar zeker aan het wennen. Wat er nog moet gebeuren is dat ik me weer topfit ga voelen (heb een griepje te pakken gehad) en minstens zo belangrijk: ik moet mijn hebreeuws leesniveau opschroeven. Vandaag heb ik definitief besloten dat ik niet naar de ulpan (=hebreeuwsschool voor iedereen die hebreeuws wil leren) ga waar sharon zit. Ik kon met het systeem van de VU al moeilijk overweg en ik weet dat het daar zo klassikaal is als de basisschool. Wat ik wel ga doen weet ik nog niet zeker, maar ik denk aan een paar privelessen, waarna ik mezelf hoop te kunnen redden. Wat doe ik dan verder? Op dit moment, herstellende van een griepje heb ik besloten niet teveel naar buiten te gaan (dus ook neit op het strand te liggen). Ik zit veel achter de computer, veel kleine klusjes voor mijn nieuwe baan te doen en bezig zaken voor Zaypay te regelen voor Europa. Dat klusjes doen zal zo blijven totdat mijn hebreeuws wat beter is en ik Israelische sites goed af kan tasten op potentiele kansen voor Zaypay.I’ll keep you up!Voor wie op vakantie is: enjoy! 

Israel - de eerste dagen

Zo, daar zit je dan, met een mix van een vakantiegevoel en een gevoel dat anticipeert op wat komen gaat. Afgelopen dinsdagavond ben ik met Sharon aangekomen in Israel. Sindsdien haal ik vooral slaap in, want oh wat was de laatste tijd hectisch. Verder is het relaxed: beetje familie bezoeken, familie ontvangen, naar het strand gaan en met een vriend / vriendin een drankje drinken in een fantastisch uitgaansgebied aan zee. Je zal zeggen: die heeft vakantie. En ja, dat is zo, maar…. In mijn hoofd speelt al een heleboel wat moet gaan gebeuren. Ik ben toch gekomen met een opdracht. Van mezelf, mijn werkgever…. Ik heb er in ieder geval heel erg veel zin in, maar waar moet ik beginnen? Langzaam maar zeker komt het al naar de oppervlakte. Mijn internet thuis geinstalleerd, mijn kantoortje klaar, mik ben begonnen te informeren naar de mogelijkheden mijn taalkennis te verbeteren,…..Later meer.Tot snel!
